What to Expect During Your Surgery

The surgery itself is performed in our fully equipped, state-licensed surgical suite with safety and comfort as top priorities.

Facelift procedures are typically completed under intravenous sedation, though general anesthesia is available if preferred. In the weeks leading up to your surgery date, you may be asked to avoid certain medications. It is very important that you follow all pre-operative instructions. 

A small area of hair near your ears and temples may be shaved for better access. Dr. Dhaliwal places incisions discreetly inside the hairline at the temple, around the ear, and into the scalp to minimize visible scarring.

During the procedure, sagging muscles and connective tissue are tightened, and excess skin is removed. In some cases, fatty deposits beneath the chin and neck are also addressed. The surgery can take several hours, especially if combined with other treatments. You will need someone to drive you home and stay with you for the first 24 hours.

What to Expect During Recovery

The healing process after a facelift is gradual, and it may take up to six months to see your full results. 

Immediately after surgery, you will have a large dressing wrapped around your head. Surgical drains may be placed at your neck and are typically removed within 24 hours.

Swelling, bruising, and a feeling of tightness are common during the first few weeks. Some numbness and temporary changes in hair pattern near the incisions may also occur.

Most patients:

• Return to light activities within 1–2 weeks
• Resume social activities around 2–3 weeks
• Notice continued improvements in contour and skin texture over several months
